Content guidelines

Acceptable use information and content guidelines for Devon Connect members.

Information on Devon Connect is posted by the community for the community.

Devon Voluntary Action partners are responsible for moderating content and approving local listings, events and volunteering opportunities. The administration team reserve the right to reject, edit or remove postings that do not adhere to the Terms of Use and acceptable use guidelines (see below).

Please help us to build a helpful, inclusive and trusted online community by following our guidelines below.

User compliance

  • Users must provide true and accurate information about themselves, their organisation and/ or their activities.
  • Users must keep their passwords confidential. 
  • Users must not act fraudulently or maliciously.
  • Users must not infringe upon intellectual property rights.
  • Users must not harass other members or interfere with any other member’s use and enjoyment of the platform.
  • Users must not suggest any form of association, approval, or endorsement with another organisation where none exists.
  • Users must not share unsolicited or unauthorised advertising or promotional material (spam).

Organisation profiles

  • If an organisation is based outside of Devon, they can have a profile on Devon Connect AS LONG AS they are holding activities/events inside Devon.
  • Public profiles are allowed to include hyperlinks to external websites/platforms.
  • If organisations’ names have too many characters for the spaces available, suggest they abbreviate if possible, and/or write the full name in the description info box.

Postings

  • Postings must provide a service or be of benefit to the local community in some way, for example: serving a social purpose; not for profit; a registered charity, etc.
  • Postings must not be used by businesses or organisations to generate advertising revenue or for similar commercial purposes; postings from such businesses should only be made public if they help wellbeing
  • Postings that are defamatory, offensive, or objectionable will not be accepted or shared.
  • Postings will not include unsolicited or unauthorised advertising or promotional material (spam).
  • In the event a posting cannot be made live, administrators will email the individual to explain why their posting was rejected.

Image use

  • Images should be in a landscape format.
  • Images that are uploaded to show alongside an organisation’s name in listings must not include text.
  • Images which include text (e.g. posters) should go into the More Info
  • Images should relate to an organisation’s provided service/services.
  • Images that are defamatory, offensive, or objectionable must not be shared.
  • Organisations must use royalty free images OR purchase the rights to reproduce any stock bought images and keep a record of their purchase.

Content accessibility top tips

Devon Connect aims to be as inclusive as possible. The following helps people with access needs such as poor vision and dyslexia.

Do

  • Use short, simple sentences and paragraphs.
  • Use headings.
  • Use descriptive wording for links. For example "read more about our services".

Don't

  • Add images with text on, unless you provide a text alternative.
  • Write in all-caps.
  • Use unusual words, phrases, idioms, acronyms, or jargon
